Bob Seay

About 2018...

I ran for Congress in 2016, hoping to represent the people of Colorado's 4th Congressional District. It was an amazing experience.

I did not win. I did manage to get 32% of the vote in a district in which only 23% of the voters are registered as Democrats. Some Republicans and Independents crossed party lines and supported our campaign. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough.

I would love to run again in 2018. But...

Political campaigns are expensive. It's not just about the expense of travel, campaign literature, and other costs. You also have to make your house payment and pay your other bills while you are doing this. My employer, Lamar Public Schools, was very supportive. The School Board allowed me to take an unpaid leave of absence during the campaign. They agreed to allow me to keep my job - something that they did not have to do. But it was still a significant loss of income for my family.

CD4 deserves a full-time candidate with Progressive values.

Beating Ken Buck and Donald Trump will require a candidate who can devote all of his or her time and energy to the campaign. I drove over 45,000 miles during my campaign, literally from top to bottom of this state. You can't do that if you're working a regular job. CD4 deserves a candidate who will listen to the people of this district. CD4 deserves a candidate that will tell the truth, take a position, and not just say anything to get elected.

I ran for Congress because I believe that healthcare is a right and not a privilege. We need to invest in people through affordable college and other options. We need economic development, improved infrastructure, and a power grid that can support wind and solar energy. We need a realistic process that allows immigrants to become citizens. We deserve a candidate that will stand up for the rights of ALL Coloradans. We need publicly funded political campaigns that allow people from all walks of life to run for public office, not just millionaires.

We need a Member of Congress that will stand up to Donald Trump.

I want to be that candidate. I just need to figure out a way to make that work.

I would appreciate your help with this decision.

I am not asking you for money, at least not yet. I am asking you to tell me whether you think I should run against Ken Buck in 2018. Would you be willing to support a Bob For Colorado campaign in 2018? If so, then how?

Please email your responses, questions, or comments to bob@bobforcolorado.org

Thank you.
